Inaugural Meeting

Inaugural meeting of the YOUNG BIOLOGISTS was held on Friday, 20 March 1998 at the SLAAS auditorium from 3.00 pm - 5.30 pm. This inaugural meeting introduced the key objectives of the YBA.

Sri Lankan Biological Scientists were introduced to the younger generation on their contributions to the biology and they delivered short presentations on what YBA can offer. Prof H G Nandadasa, Prof Jayantha Wijeyaratna and Prof Kulasooriya expressed their ideas.

Office bearers were appointed. Mr Sampath Wahala, Forestry Undergraduate of University of Sri Jayewardenepura was elected as the President of the YBA. Joint Secretaries: Jayasanka de Soyza, C Karasinghearachchi; Vice Presidents: Gayan Hettiarachchi, Pradeep Lakshath, Shanika Kodithuwakku. Treasurer: Sisira Ediriweera; Editor: Amaranath Chandrasiri.

Patrons: Dr Hiran Amarasekera, Dr Chandrani Wijeyaratne (President, IOB), Mr Sirimewan Lakdusinghe (Director, Museums) and Ms. Nayana Perera (Superintendent, Natural History Museum).

Weekly Meetings

After this inaugural session, meetings/ lecturers of this association were conducted at the Auditorium of the National Museums.

3 Tuesday - Field Trip to Kithulgala Forest Wet Evergreen Forest with rivers and water falls, Plant Identification, Bird watching etc.
