About YBA

yba logo Young Biologists' Association (YBA) promotes Biology, Environmental Management and Healthy Lifestyles among young generation. This was formed in 1998 by Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka, the umbrella organization for professional Biologists' (Academics, Researchers) in the country.

Overall objective of YBA is to stimulate and develop an interest in Biology, and to promote dissemination and development of the knowledge in the field of Biology and related subject areas among younger generation.

YBA Day 2008 "Dashaka Samarum"

Young Biologists Association celebrates the Tenth Anniversary in April 2008. YBA day called "Dashaka Samarum" will be held on 3 April 2008 from 2.00 pm at the National Museum Auditorium, Colombo 7 to mark this occasion.

Hon Patalee Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources will grace the occasion as the chief guest, while Prof Sarath Kotagama, Dr Hiran Amarasekera (Patron, YBA), Dr Nanda Wickramasinghe (Director, Museums), Dr Sirimal Premakumara (President, IOB), Mr Sarath Wickramasinghe (Addl Secretory, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources) Mr Samapth Wahala (First President, YBA) and Mr Nilantha Vishvanath (President, YBA) will address the gathering. An Environmental Drama by students of the Forestry and Environment Society will also be staged at the occasion.

Biodivesity exhibition

This exhibition organized by YBA was held at National Museum of the Natural History, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka from 3-5 April 2008 from 10.30 am - 3.30 pm. This was an educational exhibition towards guiding youth towards conservation of Threatened Flora and Fauna of Sri Lanka.

This exhibition demonstrates the Faunal, Floral and Ecosystem diversity in Sri Lanka, especially threatened species (Spiders, Land snails, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals, Freshwater fish, Insects, Flowering Plants etc.)
